Michelle Chongmi Zauner, born on March 29, 1989, is an American musician and author, best known as the lead vocalist of the alternative pop band Japanese Breakfast. Her memoir, "Crying in H Mart," released in 2021, spent 60 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list. In 2022, Time named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world under the category Innovators. Zauner, raised in Eugene, Oregon, began her music career at 15 and formed the emo band Little Big League in 2011. She left the band in 2014 to care for her ailing mother. Her third album, "Jubilee" (2021), charted on Billboard 200 and earned a Grammy nomination. Zauner also wrote the soundtrack for the video game Sable.
