Nancy Wang Yuen is an American sociologist and professor at Biola University, specializing in race and ethnicity in film, television, and new media, with a focus on Asian American representation and bias in Hollywood. Born in Taiwan, she immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 5 and grew up in Long Beach, California. Yuen graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in English in 1997 and a Ph.D. in sociology in 2008. She joined Biola University in 2008, eventually becoming the Chair of the Sociology Department in 2016. Yuen is the author of 'Reel Inequality: Hollywood Actors and Racism' and has co-authored works on the portrayal of Asian and Pacific Islanders in films. She has also been featured on various media outlets and consulted on diversity issues for major companies. Currently, Yuen is writing a book about her life through the lens of the films and TV shows she grew up watching.
